Friendship Day!

Friendship Day is something that we always look forward to every year. It is a day where we have the opportunity to make friends with other children from two different schools – Padiham Green and Whittlefield primary schools. During this day, we all take part in various activities that allow us to work together and develop our team building skills.

Year 6, you really did us proud!smiley

As part of our English topic this term, our focus has been on the very famous play script of 'Romeo and Juliet' which was published in 1597 by William Shakespeare.

The story takes place in Italy in a place called Verona – where two rival families (Montagues and Capulets) are fighting; they are full of hate towards each other.  The main characters: Romeo and Juliet, fall in love with each other but them being on opposite sides of the family feud causes them both to fight for their love– until tragedy strikes.

Our task was to write a modern day version of Romeo and Juliet. Please read some examples of our work below.

As part of our day, Year 5 and 6 were able to participate in four different activities which were delivered by all four class teachers. Each class got the opportunity to move around into the different classrooms and enjoy a very fun- packed half an hour. One of the World Book Day activities was to listen to a version of the 'Jungle Book' and children (in groups) were asked to create an image of a particular scene they enjoyed the most using a variety of resources. The second activity encouraged the children to use their imagination and get into the mind set of a witch or a wizard from Harry Potter. The chidlren were able to come up with their own magic spells and even got to test them out on their friends! The next activity was influenced by the book, 'Northern Lights'. Children loved researching and creating their very own spirit animal. Lastly, the next activity was based on the book, 'Wonder' and was linked to PSHE. Children created their very own version of the front cover which enabled them to develop on their art skills as well as think about what kind of person they want to be.

Although this popular artist died in 1972, he is still famous today for his perspective drawing. M.C. Escher is one of the best known graphic artists of the 20th century. His work is featured in his hometown, Leeuwarden - a city in the Netherlands.

We had a lot of fun learning this new skill and with a lot of perserverence we were able to create our own version of perspective drawing.

There are more Hogwarts buildings being constructed as students at Reedley Primary School have dabbled into the iconic sport from Harry Potter - Quidditch. As part of the World Book Day celebration, on Monday 18th of March, coaches from Enrich Education came in to play some magical sports.

The sorting hat chose four captains to represent each house: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin. We all had to earn points and at the end of the day, whoever had the most would win a trophy. It was the most magical day ever!

In the exceptionally exciting sessions, everyone had spontaneous practices to prepare for the BIG game. The sessions included defensive and offensive lessons to train you to be the best. You would first split up into one of the four houses to define your team members. Three balls were used: the bludger, quaffle and golden snitch, which was the teacher, and there were four positons which all used different balls. They were the: beater, chaser, seeker and keeper.

“The vocabulary used created an image in our mind about how to picture the characters (Slytherin is sly).” said Hajra from Year 6.

We enjoyed the real life experience of Quidditch.

This article was written by Haadi and Hajra - great job!!
