September 2018 Welcome Back
Class Teacher: Miss Veldon
Teaching Assistant: Mrs Wilson
We hope you had a wonderful holiday and are ready for the start of an exciting new year in year 4! We are excited to hear and see what you have been up to in the break.
Let's have a great year together that combines learning, challenges and fun. This week has been a great start! Well done.
Key events on the time table
PE is on Tuesday.
Swimming is on alternate Monday mornings (if you aren't sure bring your swimming kit anyway so you don't miss out on this great opportunity).
Reading for pleasure activities - a book mark has six activities that can be completed (no more than 3 in any one week). This year's theme is animals.
There is a reading journal to accompany home reading books. This needs to be completed carefully. Please take care of books brought home as we will be monitoring their condition; damaged books will have to be replaced with a cost to parents/carers.
We worked together before the holidays to establish a set of 'positive' ideas that would help us become better learners. Instead of using the word 'don't', we have thought carefully about what we want to see. It is interesting to see what the children came up with. Please read them and discuss them with your child.
- We are kind and help each other.
- We respect everyone equally.
- We listen to each other and look at the person talking with us.
- We treat others like we want to be treated ourselves.
- We line up smartly.
- Sometimes we work together, sometimes we work independently.
- We are honest.
- We think before we act.
- We share our ideas – thirty three brains are better than one.
- When we share our ideas we do it appropriately.
- We build resilience by never giving up.
- We keep our class room tidy.
Much as class teachers enjoy Pokemon cards, football cards and other excting fidgety spinner type toys please keep them to enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
Uniform expectations are made clear in other parts of the website. Please encourage your child to 'tuck in' shirts and learn to tie shoe laces - team points available at school for consistent smartness and knot tying skills!
Each week we will be working on a different Reedley Value to help us decide who wins our weekly award.
End of the day routines.
Children in year 4 are allowed to walk home if a written letter from the parents is provided.
Otherwise children can be collected from the area at the far end of the playground. Please help us keep the children safe by giving staff eye contact as your child puts their hand up to say you have arrived. As we get to know you this should be much quicker!
This half term we will be looking at a range of exciting things in our theme, 'Sparks Will Fly'
Maths: Addition/subtraction, place value, time and 2D shapes.
English: Fantasy stories.
D.T. and Science: Electricity.
History: The Industrial Revolution.
Geography: Counties and Cities of the U.K.
Music: Melody, steady beats and tempo
French: Dans la classe
Computing: Keeping safe on the internet and sequencing in basic programming.
P.E.: Netball and Swimming.
We have had a busy first few weeks in Year Four!
We are really looking forward to seeing you soon at Parents' Evening.
