Y5CH Nightjars 2022 - 2023
A very warm welcome to the Nightjars class from
Mrs Hardman and Miss Brown
PE is on a Thursday (Currently children should only have pumps in school)
Children will choose their reading book on a Monday and return the following week.
Reading Records should be signed to say you are reading at least 3 times a week with your child/children.
At the bottom of this page you can access Year 5's knowledge organiser and curriculum map. This will show you what we are learning throughout the year.
In Geography we had a zoom call with farmer Jake. We ask some really good questions about his industry, we now know how the food we eat gets from farm to fork.
Adults: Why don't you ask your children what they learnt from farmer Jake?
Children: Why don't you check which food in your house has travelled the most miles?
In RE we have been learning about Christianity and understanding different cultures. Here is some art work Afraz and Zain completed with Mrs Tariq.
We have been dancing in PE, this is us chroreographing our dance with the help of coach Amy.
In maths, we are really focusing on our place value. Below is a table of what we are expecting children to know and what we are working on in maths and interventions.
Science - Materials
Here we are texting out materials and discovering their propeties.
English - Hot seating
In English children took turns to hot seat and answer questions from their class mates. This activity helped them to understand the characters in our class text: Carrie's War.
Below you will find a range of videos which give you an insight into some of the fun learning children do at school, I know they enjoy being on the website.
Great dances from Menaal, Sumaiyah, Zoha, Hareem, Blanish, Al Hamna, Maheen and Aisha L. They have been using their playtimes to practise their dances to enhance their performance in our new PE topic.
We also have some great ideas for social distance games to play on the playground by Ayaan, Ayan and Shayaan. The boys worked together as a team outside along with Miss Brown to find some games that met our new school rules. They really enjoyed coming up with new creative ideas.
We have been working on changing our tone of voice when we are reading speech. This ties in with our English where we have been using inverted commas in our writing. Afraz did a really good job at not only changing his tone but reading the words of the King of Ireland in the book 'Moya the Luck Child' in a fab Irish accent. Good effort Afraz!
In English we have been reading the book 'Carrie's War' - Children loved creating their own performances by taking on the role of a character from the book. Gobble Gobble.
