Hello and welcome to Year 6P, The Triumphant Tigers page.
I am the Class Teacher, Miss Pool, and our Teaching Assistant is Miss Price-Hunt.
Our homework is set on Thursday to be handed in on Tuesday the following week.
Our homework is set on Thursday to be handed in on Tuesday the following week. There are tasks set online such as Bug Club, SPAG.com , Rockstar Timetables and My Maths. We also send home an extra piece of homework for those who cannot access the internet.
An English task, Spellings and a 'talking topic' are set and given out separately. Children also need to fill out their reading records so either Miss Pool or Miss Price-Hunt can have a look and a discussion about what you have read. Children are required to read at home at least 3 times per week for 10-15 mins to a grown up or older brother or sister. Children must get their reading record signed by their listener. This may go toward the Reading Record award card.
Children are also encouraged to complete 2/3 challenges on their reading challenge bookmarks.
All homework that is sent home is expected to be fully completed and to be done independently unless stated otherwise.
If there are any issues with homework not being fully completed on time, please see Miss Pool or write a note.
P.E takes place every Friday afternoon. This term our focus will be dance around the world.
It is a legal requirement that children take part in P.E. each week therefore it is essential that they bring in the correct uniform.
Black pumps (no trainers).
* Black shorts( girls are allowed to wear black leggings).
* Plain red T- shirt/ Red T-shirt with the school logo
* Plain black joggers are allowed when P.E. takes place outside. (With no logos etc)
The key focus for our first English topic was the Titanic. We had to create our very own flash back as if we were on the ship all those years ago. We really enjoyed learning about the Titanic and we were all very enthusiastic when it came to our writing. We included lots of detail so that our writing was interesting to read.
Mrs Gorrell asked each class to create their own reading or writing display. The winning class would recieve £150 for their class to spend on whatever they like e.g wet play time resources/ games.
The runners up would recieve £100 and third place would recieve £75.
The remaining classes would be given £25 for their efforts.
Our class WON!, we enjoyed taking part in such a great competition... thank you Mrs Gorrell!!
Take a look at our amazing Titanic display.
Saleyha and Muhammad went with Ms Price-Hunt to represent our school in a Maths challange against other schools. They did brilliantly, I think they enjoyed the triple choc chocolate cake too.
Burnley Football Club
Burnley FC in the Community is a programme that involves schools around the Burnley area to take part in a range of new and exciting experiences.
Year 6 were lucky enough to have a writing opportunity with the very talented children's author, Phil Earle. We loved working with him during the morning at Turf Moor. He taught us how to include more description in our writing also, how to edit and improve.
We have been looking at World War 2, reading some fantastic books- Carrie's War , Goodnight Mr Tom and Letters from the Lighthouse.
Next March, we have been invited on a residential trip at Hothersall Lodge. Our teachers thought it would be a great idea for us all to have a taster- day where we could get to know the place where we would be staying for 3 days. We were lucky enough to take part in a small variety of activities including, team games, orienteering, shelter building and low ropes. I think most of us enjoyed shelter building the most because we got to warm up by the fire and toast marshmallows!
Although Ms Price-Hunt's marshmallows kept falling into the fire!
The weather wasn't great but we all had a wonderful time. Everyone enjoyed the taster day experience. I think a lot of us are looking forward to staying ay Hothersall Lodge next year.
In Art we have researched Clarice Cliff, producing our own ceramic plates , decorating them and inviting parents in to help paint them.
Skipping Workshop - brilliant, fantastic! We learnt new ways to skip . Mrs Bell has bought everone in school a skipping rope, for us to use our newly found skipping skills.

We will be learning about the movement of the Earth, and other planets, relative to the Sun in the solar system.
Harry Potter Fun!!!!
Yesterday, we enjoyed playing an exhilarating game of Qudditch. All children took part and they had a lot of fun working together in teams to score as many points as they could during the game and inside the classroom. Here are some pictures from the event:
Miss Child ,Ms Price-Hunt and Mrs Bell had a fantastic time at JORDELL BANK!
We had an amazing trip to Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre where we learnt about space and the solar system. Children and staff had a fantastic day, we have incorporated lots of what we learnt into our work in class. Ask your children to tell you lots of interesting facts about space .
During the last week of the Autumn term, we made bread and soup. Here is a picture of us making the yummy bread and the finished product. Most of us enjoyed tasting the delicious bread and soup.
Last term, Year 5 have had a wonderful opportunity to visit Queen Street Mill to learn about weaving. They watched weaving take place and listened to different stories of how the weaving has evolved over many years.
This week we have started our own weaving projects. Even though we haven’t finished our weaving projects, here is a picture of what we have done so far.
