Weekly reminder: PE is on a Friday. Please send your child with the full PE kit which is then kept in school.
Homework is set on a Thursday to be returned the following Tuesday.
Here they are - the "Wicked Wildcats" of 2018/2019. Welcome to our Class Page. The children have already made a brilliant start to the year and have engaged in lots of new learning. Please explore our class page and discover what we have been up to.
Our teachers this year are Mr Thomas (class teacher) and Mrs Butt (teaching assistant). The class will be taught by Mrs Hall on a Wednesday afternoon.
We have already voted for some fabulous representatives for our class (as well as some super readers for FBA). We are sure they are going to represent Year 6 with distinction throughout the year.
School Council Member: Ali-Naqi and Mehreen.
School Eco Council Members: Zaky and Anaya.
F B A Members: Yaminah and Anaya.
This term our theme title is called "Heroes and Villains". We have been busy already looking at some famous heroes and villains in Shakespeare's famous play, Romeo and Juliet. We are busy writing our own playscripts too!
Friendship Day with Padiham Green
We really enjoyed welcoming our friends from Padiham Green to our school on Tuesday 22nd of January. As well as making some fabulous new friends, we also completed some work linked to British Values on what makes a perfect community. There was lots of excellent discussion as well as some good writing. We really enjoyed it.
Queen Street Mill Weaving Project
As part of our topic, we visited Queen Street Mill to learn about the cottage industry that made Burnley thrive all those years ago. It was fascinating! We then went on to weave our own placemats using the famous artist Kandinsky as inspiration. Here are some photographs of the trip along with some prototypes from our weaving project.
We are very excited to have a "Taster Day" at Whitehough on Friday 28th October. We would encourage all children to come on the residential (which takes place in July). The activities we "tasted" included the amazing "Leap of Faith". Here are some pictures of the Wildcats in their natural environment... the outdoors.
Art week was fabulous in Year 6. We looked at the life and works of Clarice Cliff. Born in Stoke-on-Trent in the year 1899, Clarice was a famous "potter" who designed her own style of "Bizarre" ware. As part of our work, we studied her designs, created prototypes and then used pottery skills to create a white clay plate. To help us add the finishing touches, parents were invited into school to assist with the painting process. Here are some brilliant pictures from throughout the week.
Geography in the News!
Our Geography work, linked to our "Survival" theme has been about continents and countries with a focus on general knowledge. As part of this, we have discussed and looked at climate change and how this has been in the news a lot with the extremes of weather our planet has been facing. We wrote to our local M.P (Mr Stephenson) to see what his views were. Here are some letters - we await his reponse.
Wildcats are expected to read at least three times per week. It is expected that the children will read to an adult, who can then ask questions about the book.

Over the half term the Wildcats will be learning about place value and applied that knowledge through developing the skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We have also looked at properties of both 2D and 3D shapes such as symmetry, whether a shape is regular or irregular; the number of faces, edges and vertices and the size of angles.
World Book Day is a registered charity on a mission to give every child and young person a book of their own. It's also a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it's a celebration of reading.
The Wicked Wildcats came dressed up in their favourite characters
The children got a different sense of being creative by visting Mrs Hardman, Miss Barnes and Miss Child's class and experience different styles of reading and being more adventurous.
Danny English paid the Wicked Wildcats a visit to talk about his latest book called The Happiness Tree and also to give the children some amzaing tips about creating fabulous pieces of work.
In Art Week, the Wicked Wildcats have been learning all about the famous graphic artists called M.C. Escher. His art is enjoyed by millions all over the world.
The children got a chance to make deisgns on the computer as well as drawing. The parents were invited to come into school to see their child's work and see how hard they have been working.
Its Red Nose day on Friday 15th March. Please remember to dress up in red, orange or pink to support the Charity.
Let's raise £500 for Comic Relief!

Each nose costs 50,000 TTRS coins to purchase for your avatar and they will be available from 10am Thursday 14th of March.
Keep track of our fundraising on our homepage from 10am on Thursday.
Wicked Wildcats have been busy raising money.
The Wildcats really enjoyed playing a famous game from Harry Potter, Quidditch on Monday.
The children were split into team ( Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherine and HufflePuff) and competed against each other for points.
Well done to Ravenclaw on winning the cup.
The children at Reedley Primary got a chance to compete against other schools to find out the overall champions of timestables. The children were tested on 200 questions and had 1 min to answer them. All the children who competed were fantastic and the staff are very proud of there achievement.
Children from Y2 to Y6 won. WELL DONE.
Anaya Rizwan from the Wicked Wildcats went to win overall and bagging TWO trophies.
The Wildcats have been busy writing crime fiction in English lessons. The children thought about what makes an effective detective/mystery story. The stories had to have a crime committed and the prepetrator is unknown. The vocabulary they used were amazing. They used words like suspicious, kidnapped, clues, victims.
The Wildcats spent an afternoon making Mother's Day card this week. The children got a chance to show how much the women in their lives met to them.
Thank you for the mothers, grandmothers, godmothers, stepmothers, mothers-in-law, aunts, wives, partners, sisters, friends, fellow mums, mentors and women who love with a mother’s heart.
Commonwealth 2014 Silver Medallist. Laura Samuel
To celebrate sport at Reedley, the Olympic athlete Laura Samuel visited the children. She shared her experiences and talked about the challenges she faced to become a silver medallist at the Commonwealth Games and the 2010 World Junior Champion.
The Wicked Wildcats got a chance to participate in fitness exercises with Laura. The children really enjoyed themselves and some were inspired to take up a healthy lifestyle. This was a fantastic opportunity for our children to see that if you believe in something, you can achieve it with determination and self-belief.
Mrs Bell has continued with the times tables awards which take place during lunchtimes. Children are told when each test takes place so remember to practice. Practice papers are available in class - just ask or find a downloadable file below.
