Electric Science!

We had an 'electrifying' time with an expert on the mysteries of electricity! Miss Mystery came to our year group to explore the nature of electricity; how to build circuits and finally the opportunity to make an electro-magnet.

We learnt about the movement of electrons around a circuit by acting out how a circuit works- it was a very active session with children fully engaged  in co-operatively making a light work and demonstrating how different aspects of a circuit work.

We then moved onto the real thing, with specialist equipment which allowed us to try out different combinations of equipment. We had lots of time to investigate the impact of changing the number of cells and adding different components.

In the afternoon we were able to build our own electromagnet using copper wire and a nail. It was tricky to do and only a few of us were able to complete the task and use our magnets  to pick up paper clips.

The children were very positive about the whole day, writing enthusiastically about their experiences and learning.
