Reading

K.L. Exploring vocabulary in context.

Please download and work through this sheet here

On this sheet you are provided with different sentences that contain a word in bold that you probably won't know the meaning of. You are then provided with three words that could possible replace this word as a synonym.

You must tick which word would make most sense withing that sentence and then explain why you made your choice.

Try your best to complete this sheet by just looking at the sentence the word is in and keeping the meaning the same. You can then check your answers by looking up words on WordHippo.

This should take you about 1/2 hour.

Remember to spend 20 minutes reading for pleasure to work towards your reading award.

Grammar

K.L. Recapping features of letter writing.

Today you will be writing your formal letter to Romeo.

I would like you to spend 10 minutes recapping features of letter writing.

On this website here: Formal Letter Writing , you will find a short video and a short quiz at the bottom of the oage to refresh your memory about what you will have to include today.

Writing

K.L: Use features of formal letter writing.

Today you are going to pretend you are Juliet. You will be writing to Romeo after he has been banished out of Verona for murdering your cousin, Tybalt. You should have planned this out during Friday's English lesson.

To give you an idea of what I am looking for, I have written you an example letter. The difference is, however, is that I have pretended I am Romeo and I have written to Juliet. You can almost write your letter in response to this. Download my example here.

Now you are ready to start writing - good luck!

If you become stuck, you might wish to download:

A sheet with reminders about what features to include.

A sheet with some prompt questions to guide you with ideas about what to write.

You should spent about 1 hour on this including the grammar activity.

Maths

Maths

KL: Problem Solving: Place Value and Numbers

This week we are going to focusing on problem solving activities. These problems are designed to get you thinking deeply. You will find that you need to think carefully about what strategy you are going to use to solve each problem, get started and you will probably find that some things don't work and you have to start again with a different plan. This is totally normal and completely expected - it is how you learn to improve and get better at things! Mistakes are opportunities to learn!

Problem 1: Jack's Book. (Top Tip: You are going to need to work systematically and possibly draw a table to help you work in a logical order)

Problem 2: Make Five Numbers. (Top Tip: Remember a prime number is a number that can only be divided by 1 and itself. Think really carefully about the place value of each number)

You can download the answers here for when you are completed.

Maths should take you about 1 hour.

PSHE

K.L. How are my feelings and emotionos affected and how can I manage them during changing, challenging and difficult times?

Activity 1: (10 minutes) Copy and complete the following sentences:

• A time when someone’s mental health might be affected is…

• The person might feel…

• Something the person can do to help themselves is…

• Something someone else can do is…

Activity 2: What can affect mental wellbeing? (15 minutes)

Read through this short story about Sasha here:

A few weeks ago Sasha’s mum explained there were going to be some changes coming… Sasha’s family moved house to a completely new area. Sasha had to leave the local street-dance club and start a new school as well. Sasha feels terribly lonely and doesn’t know anyone in the new area – everyone seems to have their friendship groups already and Sasha’s mum is always busy. Sasha is spending more and more time alone and feels like things will never change.

How might this situation affect Sasha's feelings and emotions (mental health and wellbeing)?

Think about what other times in people's lives might affect their feelings and emotions such as: parents starting a new job, new siblings, tests or exams etc.

Record your ideas on this Life Events Grid here. (Only complete the first 2 columns so far)

Remember that sometimes we can feel lots of different emotions all at once. For example, having a new baby in the family can make someone feel happy and excited but also jealous and left out all the the same time! This is normal!

Activity 3: How emotions change over time. (15 minutes)

Feelings can grow, change, pass or get stronger with time. Think about how the situation and Sasha's feelings might change over time. Record your ideas using this Emotions Timeline here.

Activity 4: How can we support our and others mental wellbeing during challenging times? (15 minutes)

There are times in everybody's lives when feelings and emotions can result in mental wellbeing changing. Learning how to manage these changes and challenges is extremely important.

Have a look here at some suggestions for how to help mental health during these difficult times.

Go back to the Life Events sheet that you began fillinf in during Activity 2. Consider which strategies might help during these situations.

Activity 5: My Personal Network of support. (5 minutes)

Write your name half way down a piece of paper. Add names, initials, symbols or pictures of people who are in your support network for if your mental wellbeing starts to change.

Activity 6: Giving advice to others (15 minutes)

Download and read these advice cards here. (Unfortunately you will not be able to type directly onto the sheet - you will need to write your advice on a separate piece of paper.)

Choose two of the advice cards. Can you complete the response section giving your suggestions for what each person could do to improve their mental wellbeing during this challenging time?

Activity 7: Thinking about mental health.

Copy and complete these sentences:

• Before this lesson, I didn’t know mental health…

• Something else I have learned about mental health is…

• These lessons helped me to think about…

• Something I will do following these lesson is…

• Something I would like to know more about is

Theme should take you around 1 hour.
