Remember - email all your completed work to missrashid@reedley.lancs.sch.uk and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

Keep those brains busy!

Miss Rashid and Ms Price-Hunt :)

Reading

K.L. Retrieve key information from a text.

Today we are going to read our guided reading text: 'Sleeping Cutie'.

This text takes on the form of a formal letter so keep your eyes peeled for features of letter writing throughout.

Please download and read through the letter here. Don't forget to look up any words you don't understand when you are reading - you might be able to use them in your English work this week!

Once you have finished reading, I would like you to download this sheet, answer the questions and then email me your answers. Our main focus for today is retrieval questions - so the first 5 questions to answer are answers that you should be able to literally pick out of the text. Don't forget to use our skimming and scanning techniques.

This should take you about 1/2 hour.

Remember to spend 20 minutes reading for pleasure to work towards your reading award.

Grammar

K.L. Explore, collect and use vocabulary typical of formal and informal speech.

This week our grammar focus is going to be based around formal and informal speech. This links really closely to our Romeo and Juliet topic and will help you enormously when you come to your writing tasks at the end of the week.

Today I would like you to add rewrite and add informal queston tags to these sentences. The first one has been done for you:

We enjoyed the film, didn't we?

The dog is barking again, _________?

You won't be here tomorrow, ___________?

I could sleep in this bed, __________________?

Oh Romeo, you do love me, ________________?

Writing

K.L: Explain the meaning of new vocabulary.

Understandably, after yesterday's events (where Romeo killed Juliet's cousin) - Juliet is furious at Romeo. Yet she can't help still being madly in love with him. Shakespeare cleverly showed how Juliet was feeling by the words that she uses. Juliet uses lots of oxymorons to describe Romeo in a monologue during Act 3 Scene 2. An oxymoron is where we put t wo words together that almost mean the oppositie for example; a deafening silence, clearly confused, beautiful beast. Oxymorons are used to create an effect on the reader.

Task 1: Begin by reading Juliet's monologue in Act 3 Scene 2 here. Again - the first page is the Shakespearean version and the second page has a modern day translation to help you out. (A monologue is where a character speak aloud to themselves for a length of time).

Can you pick out any oxymorons that Juliet has used during her monologue? (How about honourable villain? I wouldnt usually put the word honourable and villain together!)

Task 2: Using these adjectives here and these nouns here, I would like you to matchup words that you would expect to find together. My first one might be mysterious murderer - they work quite well together! Note: during this activity you are not creating oxymorons!

Task 3: Now it is time for us to create our own oxymorons. Mix up all of the phrases that you have just created - ensure that each adjective is with a noun that you wouldn't typically expect it to be with. My example might be beautiful murderer - I woulsn't usually expect a murderer to be called beautiful! Fill in this sheet here with your awesome oxymorons! Keep hold of these oxymorons as they will come in really handy in our work later this week.

You should spent about 1 hour on this including the grammar activity.

Maths

Maths

KL: Add and subtract fractions

I would like you to start off by attempting these questions here as a small cold task.

Then check your answers here.

If you got the questions correct - super! You are already confident in adding and subtracting fractions! You are ready to use that knowledge to answer these questions here and here.

If you didn't get the questions correct - awesome! That means we are going to learn something new today and build our confidence. You might want to start by looking through this powerpoint here and watch these videos here.

If you feel confident now, then you can get started on these questions.

If you still need a little more help, you might want to get started on these questions here to build up your confidence.

Maths should take you about 1 hour.

Science

Electricity

K.L. Will this circuit work or not?

A key part of learning about Electricity in Year 6 is being able to recognise if a circuit will work or not. If we were in school, we would be using actual equipment to explore this but unfortunately we are just going to have a look at diagrams today. (We will get the equipment out when we are back in school don't worry!).

Please begin by watching these videos to gather an understanding of what a circuit must have to be able to work:

How an electric circuit works.

How can you change a circuit.

For a circuit to work it needs: a power source (a cell/ battery), an output (a bulb/motor/buzzer) and it needs to be complete without a break in the wire anywhere.

Now that you know this, I would like you to have a go at today's activity here. On this sheet, you will find 6 different diagrams of electrical circuits. Your task is to figure out if they would work or not and then write an explanation of why you think this is.

Theme should take you around 1 hour.

Today I have created a two quizzes on Quiz Shed based on Electricity.

Please have a go at both quizzes.
