Dear Parents/Carers,

Fundraising

FUNDRAISING EVENTS - REMINDER

Tuesday 14th November

Wear something white to symbolise peace, (or non-uniform) and bring whatever financial donation you wish. The money will be sent to a charity called Hope For Mankind.

This is a charity that supports Palestinians in Gaza. I know many of our children and families feel very strongly about the situation in Gaza and want to help Palestinians, so hopefully any money we raise will help to provide much needed support. We will also donate sales from our biscuit sale in school from this week, to this charity to support the Palestinians people

Thursday 16th November

BBC Children in Need Appeal.

Wear yellow, or spotty clothes or just bright clothes. If you have specific Children-in-Need items (eg headband) you can wear these too.

Please remember the children can still dress in the colours (or non-uniform)

or all of these events, whether you choose to donate or not.

Punctuality

We had 6 hours 30 minutes of lates this week, meaning learning is still being missed by some children. This seems to be increasing each week.

Please ensure that your child is in school before the gates closes at 8.50am each day.

Three classes managed no lates at all this week:

Y5 Mrs Boyd’s class

Y4 Miss Radcliffe’s class

Y1 Mrs King’s class

Attendance

You are aware that attendance has been really low recently and it is even lower this week.

Our overall attendance for this week is 92.53%.

The classes with the best attendance this week are:

Y5 Mrs Boyd’s class  98.47%

Y4 Mrs Phillips’ class 97.04%

Events this week

  • We held the coffee morning on Monday and then continued to see some biscuits and cakes throughout the week. Thank you all for your very generous donations. I am aware that not everyone can attend school events, but for those who did, I hoped you enjoyed the opportunity to come into school for this event.

  • Mrs Hardman led a Remembrance assembly for the children, ahead of Remembrance Sunday. Many families chose to send their children to school in red and families also chose to donate to the British Royal Legion, who support soldiers and their families. We raised £225.

Upcoming events

  • The local PCSO will be coming to speak to the Y6 children on Wednesday.
  • Some Y6 children will be taking part in the Bikeability cycling training programme. Letters have been sent home regarding this.

Persistent Absentees

Lancashire County Council class children as Persistent Absentees from school if any child is absent for more than 10% of school time, for any reason. This includes if children have been poorly, if they have been on holiday or even if they are in school but arrive regularly after the register has closed.

Unfortunately this accounts for 23% of our pupils. The national figure for this is 8.7% so this is a really high figure for our school and we are working hard to reduce this.

If your child falls into this category, you will be receiving a letter from Mrs Boocock and you may be invited into school for a meeting to talk about how we can work together to improve your child’s attendance.

Mrs Iqbal

Mrs Iqbal will be absent from school from Monday 20th November for three weeks.

During this time, Miss Fegan will be in the office as always and she will be assisted by Miss Sutton, who will be joining Reedley for this period of time.

Miss MacKenzie

Miss MacKenzie will be leaving us at Christmas. She will be a Deputy Headteacher in a nursery closer to home, now that she has a young child. Miss MacKenzie wants to thank all the children and families for their support over the six years she has worked at Reedley.

We have appointed a lovely and experienced teacher called Miss Hume, who will take over Miss Mackenzie’s role from January. She will be teaching the Hedgehog class and will be the overall leader within of Reception.
