08.06.20 LA school closure

Monday 8th June

Dear Parents/Carers,

Lancashire County Council has reviewed guidance and is currently advising schools in the county not to open to more pupils from 15th June, but instead to continue with the current arrangements for key worker families. This is because, in their assessment, we do not currently meet all five of the government's tests in Lancashire, which would allow this decision to be taken safely.

Although the number of new cases has decreased, Lancashire and the North West has a high number of cases compared to many other regions in the country.

Similarly, although the weekly death count in Lancashire is showing a downward trend, a consistent decline is not being seen in all areas, and in recent weeks we have seen an increase. It has also been widely reported that the R value (infection rate) for the North West is above 1.

In light of this, we have decided not to open the school to children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 in the week beginning 15th June.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.  However, the safety and wellbeing of our children, families, and school staff are our priority – we will not open schools until the Government and the local authority agree that it is safe to do so.

Children of key worker families may still attend school from 15th June as they have been doing through the lockdown period.

Returning to school

When school does open for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6, we will be operating on a limited number of places.  Due to lack of space and staff working from home who are clinically vulnerable, we have the following places available:

Reception – 24 places (three groups of eight)

Year 1 – 33 places (three groups of nine, one group of six)

Year 6 – 24 places (three groups of eight)

Your child’s teacher will be contacting you this week to determine whether you will need a place for your child.  Please do not ring the school office. Priority will be given to the children of key worker families in line with Government guidance.  The cut off point for allocating your child a place is 12 noon on Friday 12th June.  You will not be fined if your child does not attend school – we know that you will make the right decision for your family.

If the number of children wanting a place in school exceeds our capacity, then we will develop a rota where your child will attend school on a part time basis.

Home Learning

We want to say a huge thank you to all of the children who are emailing their examples of home learning to rainbow@reedley.lancs.sch.uk

We have been able to celebrate your learning and have shared it on Twitter and on the school website (with parent’s permission).  We are looking forward to seeing more of your amazing work.

Please stay safe and we hope to see you soon.
