Reedley Primary School - Achieving Today For Tomorrow`s World

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am aware that times are tough at the moment. The cold and often wintry weather that we have had, hasn’t helped at all. I was hoping that it was all behind us now, but more snow is forecast for the days ahead. We will keep school open to the key worker children if we can throughout any bad weather, but we will send a message out if we do have to close the school.

The Prime Minister has reported today that all children will definitely NOT return to school before 8th March, and he hasn’t yet been able to give an exact date for when we can reopen again. I will write to you as soon as we have anything definite.

For those of you who have your children at home, I really just want to say a huge WELL DONE to you all. I know that some of you are feeling the strain, as you balance home-schooling (often for a number of children) along with your own jobs and everything else that needs doing in the home.

The government have stated that Reception, Y1 and Y2 should be doing 3 hours of learning each day and Y3, 4, 5 and Y6 should be doing 4 hours of learning day.

That amount of work that we put on the website is therefore a legal requirement.

Some of our children are managing this, others are not. Some families are sharing devices within a house, others have slow internet connections. Please keep persevering and remember that every little bit that you are doing, will be helping the children.

  1. Daily lessons: The lessons on the website should be the priority. Teachers are recording these sessions so that they can explain the work to the children (and any family members that are helping them). This should be the starting point every day.

  1. Phone calls: It is really important that the staff speak to each child on a regular basis. Remember that these calls will be on ‘withheld’ numbers or numbers starting with 03. Please DON’T call back. If you miss the call, the staff will try again. It is really important that the children are available for these calls. It helps the teachers plan the work for the following week and they can offer support for any learning that your child is stuck on.

  1. Email: The staff are loving seeing the work that the children are sending through. If you are struggling to email the work, call Mrs Iqbal. She will help you. The emails are looked at twice a week. Please try to send the work in one email, rather than in lots of separate ones. Thank you for all the work that we have received so far.

  1. Online Programmes such as Purple Mash, My Maths, Bug Club

There are some really useful tasks on here that will help with learning. I would recommend that you only do these once the daily lessons have been done. If you are short of time, the daily lessons are the most important.

Wellbeing

Please remember that  everyone who is helping the children with their work, will be doing a great job. It is important that the children feel loved, safe and cared for and that their efforts with their work are appreciated at home and at school. Please reassure the children that if they don’t get EVERYTHING done EVERYDAY, then that is ok, as long as they are doing their best.

We do appreciate the different circumstances that families have to deal with and we want to offer support if we can. Please let the staff know if your child needs extra phone calls. I am also aware that our school community has suffered a number of bereavements over recent weeks, and for this, I offer my sincere condolences.

We will get through this time and I am looking forward to welcoming all of our children back to school, as soon as it is safe to do so.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!
