COVID 19 update on school closures 19 3 2020

Friday, 20 March 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

You will be aware that the government have announced that schools will be closed, after school on Friday 20th March and no date has yet been given for them to re-open.

Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.  The fewer children making the journey to school, and the fewer children in educational settings, the lower the risk that the virus can spread and infect vulnerable individuals in wider society.  It is an essential part of our national effort to combat this disease.

There will be provision for children of ‘key workers’ to still attend school.  If this applies to you, please call the school office by Friday 20th March by 2pm. You will be asked to give details of your role, where you work and days that you work. You will also be asked to provide a contact number for your employer.

Key Workers are defined as:

- Health and Social care workers, including NHS staff.

- Education and Childcare workers.

- Key Public Service workers.

- Local and national Government.

- Workers in food and other necessary goods.

- Public Safety and National Security.

- Transport workers.

- Utilities, communication and financial services.

(See attached document for more information.)

The Prime Minister also stated that children in the list below could still come to school if parents/carers require them to do so.

Please call school today by 2pm and let us know if your child falls into one of the following categories and you require them to come to school:

- Has an EHCP (Educational Health Care Plan)

- Has a social worker (or is undergoing an assessment from Children’s Social Care)

Children who do not fall into these categories will not be permitted to attend school during this time.

Work will be provided for all children to complete and teachers will be giving details of this to the children throughout the day and posting this on the ‘Home Learning’ section of the website. This will be regularly updated throughout the period of closure.

If you have made a request for your child to attend school during the period of closure, then you will receive a text today confirming whether or not your child will be permitted to attend.  If your child’s name is not on our list then they will not be permitted to attend school.  Where this happens, parents will be contacted to take them home.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Kerry Gorrell

Acting Headteacher
