Reading

K.L. Justifying statements with evidence and summarising events.

Following on from our reading yesterday, please find attached 3 post read tasks to download here.

Choose whichever one you want to get started with and work on the post-read tasks for 30 minutes. If you finish one task before the 30 minutes is up, please have a go at another one.

This should take you about 1/2 hour.

Remember to spend 20 minutes reading for pleasure to work towards your reading award.

English

Grammar

K.L. Explore, collect and use vocabulary typical of formal and informal speech.

This week our grammar focus is going to be based around formal and informal speech. This links really closely to our Romeo and Juliet topic and will help you enormously when you come to your writing tasks at the end of the week.

Today we are going to explore how we can change our vocabulary between formal, informal and slang words. Download and complete this activity here. (The possible answers are provided for you at the bottom of the sheet)

Writing

K.L: Creating a toolkit of features and planning our writing.

Today you are going to be preparing to write a formal letter on Monday. (You are going to be writing a letter to Romeo from Juliet after he has been banished for killing Tybalt).

Task 1: Here are two really good examples of letters that have been written by other children. Can you please read through them and make a list of all teh features of formal letter writing that they include? TOP TIP: You might also want to magpie some good ideas and phrases for your own work! Download the letters to read through here. (Please note: in these letters the children have written as Juliet to her Father - you will not be writing the same piece as this)

Task 2: Now it is time for you to plan your own letter. Remember: you are going to be writing as Juliet. You are going to be writing to Romeo at the point in the story where Juliet has just heard from her nurse (nanny) that Romeo has killed Tybalt (Juliet's cousin) and has been banished out of Verona (surprise, surprise though - she still loves him and wants to marry him). You will need to download this planning sheet here to help you along.

I have asked you to include:

  • Cohesive devices to link paragraphs. This could be repetition of words from the previous paragraph, fronted adverbial phrases to move ideas along, fronted adverbials to link back to ideas. If you still need more support with this, there are some suggestions on this page here.
  • Thoughts/ feelings and Shakespearean phrases. You might need to revisit the text from yesterday to find some of these and pop them in your plan.
  • Oxymorons. You created some of these yesterday. For example - Juliet could write 'Oh you beautiful villain, why wouldst thou slay my cousin?'.

You should spent about 1 hour on this including the grammar activity.

Maths

Maths

KL: Multipying fractions.

Please begin by having a go at this cold task here.

Then check your answers here.

If you got the questions correct - awesome! That means you are already confident with multiplying fractions! Please begin with this activity sheet but I would like you to start on the section called 'Apply'.

If you didn't get the fractions correct - super! That means we are going to learn something new today and become more confident in multiplying fractions. You might want to begin by watching this video here. After watching this video, you should be ready to have a go at the questions for today here. Please complete section 1.

Maths should take you about 1 hour.

Science

Electricity

K.L. What happens when we add more cells or more outputs to a circuit?

Today we are going to do a virtual investigation. I want you to think about what happens to a circuit if we keep the same amount of batteries but keep adding more bulbs.

Start by planning your investigation using this sheet here

Once you have planned out your investigation - I would like you to use this website here to have a go at building different circuits. Pay close attention to what happens when you add more bulbs to the circuit.

If you are completed, have a play around on the online circuit builder to find out:

What happens if we change from 1.5 v battery to a 3 v battery?

What happens if we add in a buzzer?

What happens if we add in 2 or 3 buzzers?

Can you make a circuit work with a bulb, buzzer and motor or not and why?

Theme should take you around 1 hour.
