08.04.21 Ramadan 2021 - Reminder
Thursday, 08 April 2021
Dear Parents/Carers,
Ramadan
As the holy month of Ramadan is due to start for our Muslim families, I know that a number of our older children indicate a desire to fast at this time. There is no requirement for primary-aged children to fast, although I understand that this is a special time and some families choose for their older children to do so. Children can often become restless, tired and may lack energy if they are fasting, which may prevent them from learning in the normal way. If you make the choice with your child that they will take part in the fast, please ensure that they are physically able to cope with demands that fasting places on them.
Children who are fasting either need to go home during their lunchtime or will need to sit in the dinner hall with the other children who are having their lunch, as we do not have the facility to supervise the children unless they are in the dinner hall.
In addition to this, we expect all children to take a full part in the curriculum during the holy month of Ramadan. Some children often feel that they are not allowed to sing or listen to music during this time. However, singing, dancing and listening to music will be part of the school curriculum and all children will be expected to take part in any such activities. Please ensure that your child understands this.
Lunchtimes
We have made provision for the children to go home during the lunchtime if they are fasting. Due to the additional restrictions placed on schools due to COVID, we ask that you stick by these strict procedures as we have not got anywhere else for the children to go if these procedures are not followed exactly.
Children will be allowed to walk to and from their home unaccompanied, if you give permission for them to do so on the slip below, but please understand that they are not the responsibility of the school once outside the school premises. You should emphasis to your child that they are expected to conduct themselves in a safe and appropriate manner during this time.
Lunchtime for Y5 and Y6 is from 11.55 to 12.40
Children need to be collected between 11.55am and 12pm from the pedestrian gate (the green gate that they use each morning to come into school). This gate will be locked at 12pm and so children need to be collected by this time. If they are not collected by 12pm, they will then need to sit in the dinner hall with the children who are having their lunch.
This gate will then be unlocked for them to return to school between 12.35pm and 12.40pm. The children are not to return outside of this time frame and MUST NOT come through the school office due to COVID restrictions.
If the children arrive before the staff member has unlocked the gate to let them in, they must queue sensibly and maintain a social distance from children not in their year group.
Lunchtimes for Y3 and Y4 is from 12.25 to 13.10
Children need to be collected between 12.25am and 12.30pm from the blue gate (the gate with the buzzer for the main entrance to school). If children have not been collected by 12.30pm, they will be taken to the dinner hall and will sit with the children who are eating.
We will close the car park to traffic from 12.25 – 12.30pm and will create a one-way system.
Parents/carers waiting to collect the children must wait on the footprint path (please leave five footprints between adults and only one adult should come onto the path to collect each child).
Once you have collected your child, please exit through the car park.
When the children return, they need to come to the green pedestrian gate (the green gate that they use each morning to come into school) between 13.05 and 13.10.
The children are not to return outside of this time frame and MUST NOT come through the school office due to COVID restrictions. If the children arrive before the staff member has unlocked the gate, they must queue sensibly and maintain a social distance from children not in their year group.
Thank you for your support,
