Reedley Primary School Rules:
Is it kind? Is it safe? Is it My Best?
Hello,
I am your Class Teacher and Phase Leader, Mrs Hornby. I like to think of myself as a kind and caring person. I love animals and enjoy playing sports.
I am looking forward to sharing this journey through your last year in primary school with you. It will be an exciting and emotional one, I am sure.
Our PE day is on Wednesday afternoons.
Swimming starts week beginning 2nd September 2024.
Please ensure your child has their P.E pumps and kit in school. Trainers can be worn if PE sessions are outside. These will be kept in school and sent home for washing at the end of each half term. If your child has earrings, they should be removed for PE days. Staff in school are not permitted to do this.
We expect all children to wear full school uniform every day.
Boys - Black or grey trousers, white polo shirt and a navy blue sweatshirt
Girls – Black or Grey dress or skirt, white polo shirt, blue checked dress, navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan. Girls can wear leggings or trousers.
Shoes - This includes plain black school shoes/boots with a sensible heel, not trainers and no logos. If children have a problem with their usual school shoes, they wear their black school pumps whilst in school.
Names - Please ensure that all items of clothing are named – then they be returned to your child if the items become lost.
Jewellery - Jewellery is not allowed in school expect for a small pair of stud earrings and a watch. For PE lessons, the earrings must be covered over with plasters (provided by the parent) or removed. For swimming lessons earrings must be removed. The children must be able to remove them themselves. Please keep all other jewellery at home at all times for safety purposes. If it has to be taken from a child, it could get lost in school.
Headscarves – girls can choose to wear a headscarf if they wish to. These should be plain black, blue or white and should have no decorations, and must not be fastened by pins. Ideally they should not be longer than shoulder length. These must be removed for PE.
Homework will be sent home on a Thursday and will be expected back in school by the following Tuesday. Children are not expected to spend more than 10 minutes on each task. We will be sending home Maths homework, English homework and talk homework.
Additional tasks to support learning are available too, should your child want to spend a little longer learning at home. This will be available via Times Table Rockstars, Maths Whizz Spag.com, Purple mash.
All children are expected to read to an adult as often as possible but at least once a week. Please date and sign the reading diary when your child has read at home. This is imperative if we are to help our children build their reading comprehension and reading stamina in general.
Reading books and diaries should be available in school every day so that we can also hear your child read.
Handwriting
In school we use the following handwriting formations. It would be really helpful if you ask your child to help you do some writing at home. Maybe they can write the shopping list or a list of jobs that you need to do in town.
Water Bottles
Children are to bring a reusable water bottle ( no glass bottles ) to use each day, to help keep them hydrated. Please make sure these are only filled with water and are clearly labelled with your child’s name. These can be refilled with water throughout the day if needed. Water bottles can also be purchased from Mrs Iqbal in the school office.
Statutory Assessments (SATs)
Key stage 2 tests
The statutory key stage 2 tests are timetabled from Monday 12 May to Thursday 15 May 2025. We will be holding a meeting about the SATs in school to further inform parents/carers.
In the meantime, if your child finds a particular area of maths or English tricky, they could complete some extra reading or work around this area as well as their homework.

Road Safety Incident
There was a near miss on the road outside school on Thursday. Two children were walking along the pavement and were almost hit by a car reversing onto the pavement. Cars should not be parking on the pavement.
Please remind all drivers to take extra care around school. We are aware that parking is very limited so I urge you to allow extra time for your journey and to park a few streets away and walk the last part.
Vehicles are not permitted to park on the yellow lines between 8am - 9am or 3pm - 4pm.
(The only exception is where cars display a blue disabled badge for a person who is in the car but these drivers can also access the staff carpark with permission as parking on the yellow lines increases the risk for pedestrians crossing the road).
Drivers are not permitted to stop on the zig zags to drop off or pick up passengers.
