Dear Parents/Carers,

Attendance and Punctuality

Our overall attendance for the week is 90.16%. This is considerably lower than last week and lower than our target of 96%.

We had 2 hours and 53 minutes of lates this week, meaning vital learning is being missed by some children.

Please ensure that your child is in school before the gates closes at 8.50am each day.

Events this week

-Year 3 had an animal exploration day and were able to see and hold some animals, such as a snake, a tarantula, Chinese Water Dragon and a Horned Frog.

-Some Y6 girls played football at the Leisure Box.

-Year 4 went on a trip to the cinema and watched Sonic 2, as part of work comparing film and texts.

-Some Y6 children went to Walverden School to take part in an author visit with Colin R Parsons, author of Wizard’s Kingdom, alongside children from other schools

-Reception children have had a visit from a dentist to talk about how to keep their teeth healthy

-Year 5 and Y6 children listened to an assembly about all 9 of the protected characteristics, as noted in the Equality Act 2010 as part of our on-going work on equality

Future Events

-On Monday 28th November, the school photographer will be taking photos of the children. If you want your child to have photos with younger siblings, then please come to the blue buzzer gate from 8.15am.

Individual photos and pictures with siblings within school will be taken throughout the school morning. Children must be in school uniform.

-Author Shabana Hussain will be visiting school on Tuesday 29th November. Children who have pre-ordered books will receive them on Tuesday.

-Reception and Year 1 nativity will take place on Wednesday 30th November at 2pm and on Thursday 1st December at 9.30am. Entry is by ticket only. Two tickets in total are available for each child’s family, due to the limited number of spare chairs that we have.

Please note that the children will not be able to leave with you after the performance and need to remain in school following the performance.

-On Friday 2nd December, we are asking the children to bring a donation of chocolate to school for the chocolate tombola for the Christmas Fair.  In return for bringing a chocolate donation, the children can choose to come in their own clothes for the day.

We are asking for either single or multiple bars of chocolate, packets of sweets or other small treat items that would be appropriate for children to win as a prize.

Online Safety Guide

This week I have attached a fact-sheet about SnapChat.

Key messages for parents/carers this week:

-Children under the age of 13 should NOT have any access to SnapChat

- This is a photo and video sharing app.

- Items sent to a device disappear once read, so there is no evidence, if anything explicit or inappropriate is sent

-Children using SnapChat can be exposed to offensive language and inappropriate content

- People can track where users are and where they hang out frequently, meaning they can track a child to different places

Parent Governor Election Results

Syeda Zesmin received the most votes in the Parental Election and has therefore been appointed as parent governor.

Dates for your diary:

  • Non-uniform day on Friday 2nd Children asked to bring donations of chocolate.
  • Christmas Fair in school – Tuesday 13th December
  • Friday 16th School closes at 3.30pm and reopens on Wednesday 4th January 2023.
  • Wednesday 7th December – children will be having Christmas dinner. Children who usually have packed lunches are invited to have a school dinner on this day, if they wish to.

Parking Around School

We all know that parking is limited around school. This is not a reason to drop your child off on the yellow zigzags, on the single or double yellow lines or at a dropped-curb.

I am aware that drivers with a Blue Badge do have permission to park on the yellow lines.

You may have noticed that we have managed to get LCC to install some tactile paving at designated crossing points on Reedfield and Hillside Avenue to make it safer for our children to cross these roads. Cars must not obstruct these areas.

I also see a number of cars that mount the pavement to park, often posing a danger to children walking on the pavement. This is not safe for the children and is not appropriate. Please do not mount the pavement at any time.

The following has been taken from the Highway Code, which all drivers must follow:

243

DO NOT stop or park

  • near a school entrance
  • opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
  • where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
  • in front of an entrance to a property

244
Parking on the pavement can obstruct and seriously inconvenience pedestrians, people in wheelchairs or with visual impairments and people with prams or pushchairs.

Before School Club

Any child can be dropped off at school for the Before-School Club between 8.15am and 8.25am. This is available every day. When the children come in, they play with games and toys until the rest of the children arrive from 8.40am.

From Monday 5th December, children will be able to purchase a breakfast bar when they arrive at school for 50p or they can bring a healthy snack from home to eat in school before 8.40am ,if they wish to.

Thank you for your support,
