Dear Parents/Carers,

World Book Day

Well done to everyone who dressed up to celebrate World Book Day yesterday, and thank you to all the

parents/carers who helped the children with their costumes! The school looked vibrant and exciting with all the bright costumes being worn and more importantly, everybody was talking about reading!

Thank you to the parents/carers who were able to come into school to share a story with your child. It was lovely to see you all!

Quidditch

Children in Year 3 to 6 will be taking part in a Quidditch session on Monday, as part of the World Book Day celebrations, which is a game played in the Harry Potter books! They will all need to have their full PE kit for this session, which should already be in school.

Coronavirus

You will be aware that Coronavirus is a current health concern.

The current health advice received by school is to promote hygiene standards. Within school we are carrying out additional cleaning throughout the day, and we have spoken to all the children about the correct techniques for washing their hands, especially after visiting the toilet and before eating food.

It would be very useful if families could reinforce this message at home.

Other than that, the advice is just to carry on as normal, but be on the lookout for any of the symptoms which include a cough and high-temperature and shortness of breath.

Just having any of the symptoms however it does not mean that you may have contracted the virus, and it is more likely to be a cough or a cold.

If you feel that you may be experiencing symptoms, you are advised to call 111 for further advice and guidance.

There are currently no plans to close any schools in response to this issue.

It is worth remembering that worldwide, very few children have been affected by the virus.

Times Tables

Last week the children from Years 2 to 6 were able to take part in round one of our times table competition.

The following children will go on to represent Reedley against other local primary schools in the grand final on Thursday 26th of March:

  • Y2 Halima, Halima, Raihan
  • Y3 Mohammad Isa Ali, Abdul-Muiz Tariq, Hooriyah
  • Y4 Isha Anwar, Afraz, Aadam
  • Y5 Iqra Ashgar, Zeeshan, Abdullah
  • Y6 Muhammad, Saifullah, Moiz

We wish them all well!

Parking

I regularly receive complaints from residents from around our school, complaining that they are unable to access their homes because drivers have blocked the driveway.

I want a school to have a good reputation and for our children and their families to be thought of in high regard, and not to be let down by issues such as this.

I have advised these residents to take down the registration number of any cars which are blocking their homes and to forward these on to the police, as we do if we see drivers parking on the zigzags or on the yellow lines during the restricted times.

For parents who drop their child off at breakfast club, I need to remind you that, by law, you are not allowed to park your car on the solid yellow line between 8 am and 9am.

Again, we will be taking photographs of any cars who do this and sending these to the local police.

These parking restrictions are there to protect our children when crossing roads. Two of our younger children have been hit by cars over recent months outside school – thankfully they weren’t badly injured – but we need all drivers to drive and park within the law, to minimise the chances of any accidents. Please ensure that all drivers are aware of this message, including any taxi drivers that drop off.

Our children’s safety is the most important thing to us. Please ensure that all drivers abide by the law at all times.

Accessing School

A number of parents and children continue to use the school driveway to walk into school via Mrs Iqbal’s office. We have provided a pedestrian path, in order to keep pedestrians and vehicles separate, for safety reasons.

Please use the path at all times when coming into school through this entrance, even if you don’t have children with you.

The only exception to this is on a Wednesday night when collecting children from clubs, when cones are set out to stop vehicles accessing the car park at this time.

Fun Run

Thank you once again for all the contributions for the fun run.

We have managed to raise over £2000 to buy new non-fiction books for our school library.

I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in helping us to raise this amount.

We are just waiting now for the delivery of some of our prizes, including the signed Burnley shirt, and then we will be able to award the prizes to the children throughout the school.

School Attendance

Unfortunately, school attendance is still lower than our target of 96% and we are now a cause for concern from the local authority in relation to attendance.

School is open for 190 days a year and children are expected to attend on these days unless they are poorly.

We do not authorise leave for children in term time, which includes if families have to go and visit poorly relatives in another country. Under those circumstances, parents are expected to make alternative arrangements for someone to care for your child whilst you visit the relatives, so that they can still attend school.

Parent teacher meetings

Parents/carers will be able to book an appointment slot with their child’s class teacher for the last week of March.

Appointments will be available for you to book from 4 o’clock on Monday, 16th of March.

You will need to ensure that you are able to log on to the School Spider app in order to make this booking.

If you cannot access the app please see Mrs Iqbal as soon as possible.

Career fair

Well done to our year five children who attended a career fair in school on Monday.

They were able to talk to many employers, and get some ideas about things they might like to do in the future.

Thank you to the Year Five staff who organised the event.

Library opening

We were delighted to have the official opening of our school library. Storyteller Sue Allonby, who has worked with all of the children across school recently, cut the red ribbon for us in an official ceremony.

You can see further information about this and other school events on our website.

Look under the section called ‘ Reedley In The News’.

Easter Holidays

School will close for the Easter holiday, after school on Friday 3rd April and will re-open on Monday 20th April.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Sarah Bell
