Thursday 8th July

Hello there Year 6! Unfortunately we are back to home learning and will not be returning to school until Friday 9th July. It is expected that you complete all of today's lessons.

Please find below our home learning lessons for today. Don't forget that Mrs Phillips will be contacting you throughout the week to check on how you are doing and to answer any questions. Please contact the office if you need to update your phone number.

Remember - email all your completed work to misspool@reedley.lancs.sch.uk and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

Keep those brains busy!

Miss Pool and Mrs Phillips :)

Reading

K.L. Answering questions providing evidence.

Use the text from yesterday's guided reading session: Charles Darwin's biography.

Read through the text again and then answer these 4 questions here.

It is really important to remember to use evidence from the text to explain your answers.

This should take you about 1/2 hour.

Remember to spend 20 minutes reading for pleasure to work towards your reading award.

English

Grammar

K.L. Identify what formality is appropriate for different purposes and audiences.

Download this sheet here.

On this sheet you are asked to think about different purposes and audiences and whether it should be formal or informal, to suggest changes needed or make comments.

Writing

K.L: Learn a section of text off by heart.

What you might not know is that the story of Romeo and Juliet actually begins with a prologue. In this prologue, the narrator gives a brief summary of the entire story!

Today your challenge is going to be to learn this prologue off by heart.

Task 1: Your first task is to try and fill in the blanks in the prologue in this sheet here. Think carefully about which word might go wherer. The options for issing words are at the bottom of the sheet.

Task 2: Here you will find a story map that I have created to help you learn the prologue. In the notes section at the bottom of the powerpoint are the words of the prologue to help you out.

To be successful in today's lesson, you should be able to recite the prologue either with just the pictures or without anything at all.

Good luck - I will be asking you all to give it a go tomorrow!

You should spent about 1 hour on this including the grammar activity.

Maths

Maths

KL: Place Value Problem Solving.

To finish off our learning about Place Value and problem solving this week there are a number of activities to challenge your brains. Set a timer and choose what you want to work on for the next hour.

Task 1: Place Value problem cards (choose at least 6)

Task 2: Who wants to be a Place Value Millionaire?

Task 3: Scooter Quest

Task 4 : Placing Numbers on a number line (Choose a challenging level)

Maths should take you about 1 hour.

ART

K.L.: Creating artwork around a theme.

Yesterday you were asked to create your own mood board with the theme of 'The Sea' or 'Seaside'.

This afternoon, I would like you to have a go at sketching a piece of art based upon the ideas you gathered yesterday. This can be done in pencil ideally but if you don't have one, don't worry - lots of artists draw in pen.

You might want to add in some colour if you have some available or you could choose to just use your pencil to add shading.

Most importantly, take your time with your piece of art. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day (this is a saying that means great things take time to build!).

If you are stuck, have a google of 'seaside sketches' for some inspiration or YouTube 'seaside drawing tutorial' for step-by-step guides.

Theme should take you around 1 hour.

Extra Activity (optional)

You are at an incredible time in your life! You have just lived through a pandemic, you are on the brink of leaving primary school and you have the whole world ahead of you.

My extra activity for you today is to make a time capsule to capture this amazing moment in your life. Write notes, find pictures, gather items that remind you of this time right now and place them into a container (a cardboard box or anything will do). Seal it tightly and either bury it or hide it away somewhere that you won't come across it for a long time - maybe the cupboard under the stairs or at the back of a cupboard!

Ideas of what to place in:

A letter to your future self.

A photo of you right now - maybe in your school uniform.

Your hopes and dreams for the future.

What you want to be when you are older.

A note about favourite foods, drinks, toys etc.

A face mask and hand sanitiser!
