Hello there Year 6! Unfortunately we are back to home learning and will not be returning to school until Friday 9th July. It is expected that you complete all of today's lessons.

Please find below our home learning lessons for today. Don't forget that Mrs Phillips will be contacting you throughout the week to check on how you are doing and to answer any questions. Please contact the office if you need to update your phone number.

Remember - email all your completed work to misspool@reedley.lancs.sch.uk and we will get back to you within 24 hours.

Keep those brains busy!

Miss Pool and Mrs Phillips :)

Congratulations to the Crafty Kingfishers who won yesterday's TT Rockstars battle.

A special shoutout to Iqra, who alone scored more than everybody else in both classes added together! What an awesome effort! :)

Reading

K.L. Explore new vocabulary in context.

Begin by downloading and reading our guided reading text for this week: Charles Darwin's Biography

Focus on using the punctuation to help your speed when reading and focus on using expression in the correct places.

Once you have read the text it is time to focus on the questions. Download these here.

The first 5 questions focus on vocabulary in the text, the last 5 questions focus on a range of different comprehension skills.

This should take you about 1/2 hour.

Remember to spend 20 minutes reading for pleasure to work towards your reading award.

English

Grammar

K.L. Explore formal and informal vocabulary.

For your Grammar activity today, please spend 10 minutes having a go at this online activity hereYou can make this activity more or less challenging by changing the 'interactive' section on the right hand side.

Writing

K.L: Use point and evidence to answer questions.

Re-read Act 4 Scene 1 which we looked at yesterday. You can find it here if you need.

Task 1: Write a short postcard to Juliet with your recommendations whether you think she should or should not drink the potion. Remember to try and include some of the persuasive devices we looked at yesterday. There is a postcard template here.

Task 2: Answer these questions here. You will need to use Point and Evidence to answer these questions fully. This involved stating your point and then backing up with evidence and reasons for this statement.

You should spent about 1 hour on this including the grammar activity.

Maths

KL: Problem Solving: Decimals and Place Value

Today I would like you to have a go at this problem solving challenge. All the instructions you need to follow are on the sheet. Please email your work to me and I will be handing out team points for anyone who successfully completes their own magic matrix.

Problem 1: Magic Matrix.

If you are finding this a little tricky, have a go at this challenge here.

Problem 2: Greater than, Less than?

Maths should take you about 1 hour.

ART

K.L.: Evaluate art around a similar theme.

This afternoon we are going to be thinking about Art, all based around the theme of the Seaside.

Activity 1: Download this sheet here. On this sheet, you will find 3 pictures. You need to think about similarities between each of the pictures, similarities between pairs of the pictures and what makes each picture unique. If you need to research the pictures further they are :

LS Lowry - At the Seaside

Abigail Mill - Seaside

Alfred Wallis.

Activity 2: Create a seaside mood board.

A mood board is where you gather lots of ideas and images to inspire your own piece of art based on the Seaside. I want you to gather at least 20 different images and place them all together. This might be an image of a few colours, animals, objects, landscapes, sand etc. Think carefull about what kind of theme you wan to go for - are you going for an angry sea? a peaceful, serene sea? a fun day at the seaside?

Remember art is very personal. You are allowed to make whatever choices you want, as long as you can provide reasons for your thoughts.

Here is an example to get you started:

Creative Inspiration Moodboard: Seaside | Craftiosity

Theme should take you around 1 hour.

P.E.

Design your own HIIT circuit.

This should include 10 different exercises that will target all your main muscle groups.

Set a time and perform each exercise for 30 seconds followed by a 10 second break.

After one round of all the exercises, pause for 2 minutes and then go again!
