DT
Year 5 have been really busy this week. They have been learning all about what are Mechanical Toys.
Working in groups, the children have each other the followingquestions:
- How does the mechanism work?
- How many cams are there?
- What shapes are the cams?
- What materials have been used?
- What is the purpose of the toy?
- Who would pplay with this toy?
- What are the strengths/likes of the toy?
- What are the weaknesses/dislikes of the toy?
The children have been busy planning and creating their designs. They had to think of the three things:
- Product - What could we make?
- Purpose - What is it for?
- User - Who is going to use it?
They looked at cam mechanism. A cam mechanism is made up of three components, a cam, a slider and a follower. The mechanism causes the components to move.
Summer 2
Sewing
In DT, we are creating a hanging holder with pockets for someone going on a camping trip.
The children have been evaluting a hanging holder with pockets. They looked at a variety of holders and thiught about who would use them, what for and when.
They also looked at what the material they would use, would it be waterproof?, the size of their product and who would buy it.
Today the children were shown diffewrent styles of sewing that they can later use when creating their product.
They then began to design their prototype of their product.
