Science
Autumn 1
This term the children have been looking at properties of materials.
The children looked at a variety of materials and tried assessing the durability, strength and absorbency of them
Below are the keywords they have learned and pieces of work completed so far.
Transparency, Absorbency, Strenght, Flexibility, Smooth and properties ( science-related )
Which material resists being scratched the most?
Which material does not soak water up?
Which material feels smooth to touch?
Which material can be cleaned easily with soap and water?

Autumn 2
Which materials are soluble?
Things like salt, sugar and coffee dissolve in water. They are soluble. They usually dissolve faster and better in warm or hot water. Pepper and sand are insoluble, they will not dissolve even in hot water

Summer 1
This term the children are looking at Life Cycle.
The children are going to be learning about animal and plant life cycles, discuss what life cycle means.
The clips below clearly explain that everything has a life cycle but depending on the species it can look different e.g., caterpillar to a butterfly compared to a human growing old.
The children have been looking at the two people below and deciding who is a naturalist and who is behaviourist.
Naturalist – study of nature esp plants and animals.
Behaviourist – study of someone’s behaviour.
Animal behaviourists – study of animal behaviour.
They looked at the two below and did plenty of research

The children then researched other animals found in the local environment, (e.g. birds, hedgehogs, foxes, mice, spiders, ants, ladybirds).
- Whether they have live young or eggs.
- The length of the gestation or incubation period.
- Whether they are similar to the adult when born then grow or metamorphosise.
- Whether or not they have parental care.
Please see the children work below:
Today, the children looked at dangerous plants. Do they know what dangerous plants are and can they name some?
