I am Mrs Edwards, your class teacher, and I am looking forward to sharing your final year of Primary School with you.  Throughout the year we will work hard but we will have lots of fun too!

Ms Price-Hunt is our Teaching Assistant and Miss Wesson is our PPA teacher, who teaches our class on Tuesday afternoons.  Mrs Hornby (who teaches 6VH - the Phantom Midge Larva Class) is our phase leader.

One of us will always be around to talk to if you have any questions or if you need anything.

Reedley Primary School rules:

Is it kind?  Is it safe?  Is it my best?

Our Uniform

We expect all children to wear full school uniform every day.

Boys - Black or grey trousers, white polo shirt and a navy sweatshirt.

Girls - Black or Grey dress or skirt, white polo shirt, blue checked dress and a navy sweatshirt or cardigan. Girls can wear leggings or trousers.

Shoes - This includes plain black school shoes/boots with a sensible heel, not trainers and no logos. If children have a problem with their usual school shoes, they wear their black school pumps whilst in school.  Trainers are not part of the school uniform.

Headscarves – girls can choose to wear a headscarf if they wish to. These should be plain black, blue or white and should have no decorations, and must not be fastened by pins. Ideally they should not be longer than shoulder length. These must be removed for PE.

Jewellery - Jewellery is not allowed in school except for a small pair of stud earrings and a watch. For PE lessons, the earrings must be covered over with plasters (provided by the parent) or removed. For swimming lessons, earrings must be removed. The children must be able to remove them themselves. Please keep all other jewellery at home at all times for safety purposes. If it has to be taken from a child, it could get lost in school.

P.E.

Our PE day is Wednesday.

Your child needs to have a school PE kit, which should be brought in on the first day of term and remain here until the end of each term, when it can be taken home for washing.

Children need to have a red polo t-shirt, black shorts and black pumps. Kits and PE bags (not pumps) can be bought from the school office.

Children can have plain black tracksuit bottoms for outside PE when the weather is colder.

Kenzo - Boys Red Tiger T-shirt | Maison Threads                           Kids Boys Girls School Pe Plimsolls Plimsoles Canvas All Black Strap Pumps Shoes | eBay

Children who take part in after-school sport club need to bring in additional kit for this purpose and should not be using their school PE kit, otherwise the kit can get muddy or left at home.

Swimming

Year 6 will have swimming lessons on Wednesday 4th September, Friday 6th September, Tuesday 10th September and Thursday 12th September.  Please ensure your child has their swimming costume / trunks and a towel with them on these days.

Homework

I will send Homework books home on a Thursday and the work should be completed by the following Tuesday.

Homework is usually to consolidate something we have already learnt in class and it is really important that it is completed. Passwords for online homework platforms will be stuck in the front of your child's homework book.  If this book is misplaced, or your child is having difficulty logging onto the online learning sites, please let us know.

Also, if your child is not able to complete the work, please let me know.

Your child will have access to Maths Whizz, which is a Mathematics based programme.  Maths homework will usually be set on this site but we recommend that your child tries to do around 10 minutes each day on this at home to support their work in school.

If the homework is not done, we will chat to you on the playground or give you a call to check that everything is ok.

Equipment

All pens, pencils and other equipment needed for lessons will be provided, therefore children do not need to bring their own pencil cases into school.  Children should , however, bring a clear, plastic water bottle everyday with their name on. This should not have juice in.  In our class we put our bottles on the floor, at our places, so we can have a drink when we need one without disturbing others by walking around the classroom.

Reading

Children need a school bookbag – not a rucksack as we do not have the space to store these in the day.

They need to bring this to school every day.  We ask that all children read at home for at least 10 minutes every day.  Please ensure you sign your child's reading record every week.

Knowledge Organisers

Each term, the children will be bringing home a knowledge organiser. Please encourage your child to read through it and learn some of the vocabulary linked to the topics we will be learning. If they want to do some research on the topics we will be learning, this will be more than welcomed. I always enjoy looking at what the children have been learning at home.

Times Tables

Each week the children will be able to take a written test to achieve different times table awards in school. They have to answer different questions at random, both multiplication and division. If they are close to passing but get a few wrong, I will write these facts down for the children to practise at home.

Statutory Assessments (SATs)

Key stage 2 tests

The statutory key stage 2 tests are timetabled from Monday 12 May to Thursday 15 May 2025. We will be holding a meeting about the SATs in school to further inform parents/carers during the autumn term.

In the meantime, if your child finds a particular area of maths or English tricky, they could complete some extra reading or work around this area as well as their homework.

CONCERNS

If you have any concerns or questions at any time, I am happy to chat to you. You can catch me on the playground at the end of the day or you can book an appointment or telephone call with me.

Call Mrs Iqbal on 01282 693688 if you require an appointment.

Finally, we hope all your children will enjoy their time in Year Six. I am sure we will have a fantastic year working together. There are some very exciting topics planned and we look forward to seeing and sharing their progress during the year. Thank you for your continued support.
