Friday 10th January 2025 - home learning
Happy Friday Otters!
Unfortunately, school remains closed today due to the icy conditions outside and it is not safe for you to travel to school.
Here is your home learning for today - we will be checking you have completed the activities, including your online platforms.
Thinking Question
If you had to go and survive on a desert island for a year and you could only take 1 person with you, who would you take with you? It could be a family member, a friend or somebody famous, but I would like you to give me some reasons for your choice.
Mrs Phillips' example
If I was going on a desert island for a year and I would need to survive, I would take Bear Grylls with me. My reasons for this choice is because he is famous for his survival skills in the wild. I think he would help me to stay alive by teaching me lots of new things like hunting for food and making a shelter.
Guided Reading
Please read the short extract 'Ember Spark and the Frost Phoenix' and answer the reading domain based on the meaning of words. Use the text to help you with your answer but if you are struggling, you can use Word Hippo.
Spellings
We are looking at a new spelling rule this week using 'gu'.
Read the sentences carefully and then add in the correct missing word. Some words might be new to you so you might choose to use Word Hippo if needed.
English
Because you know how much I love your storytelling skills, I would like you to use this image to create a story of your own. I would like you to include some key words within your story. These are words that we have focussed on in previous lessons in school.
Key words: ocean, storm, captain, menacing, cascading, encircling.

I have attached 2 sheets for you to download below. If Fluency in Maths A is too tricky, try and have a go at Fluency in Maths B.
